INTRODUCTION
Mathematics education
and culture are inseparable. The East Asian nations are made up
of diverse cultural groups. However, these nations share similar
aspects of culture such as education system and cultural beliefs
about education. This conference which embraces the cultures of
both East Asia and South
East Asia is especially significant in celebrating differences and yet finding
common ideas and issues for discussion and exchange.
The ICME-East Asia
Regional Conference series on mathematics education was first
held in 1998 (Korea), the second in 2003 (Singapore) and the third in 2005 (Shanghai, China). Universiti Sains Malaysia will hold the 4th EARCOME in 2007 in
Penang, Malaysia.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of
the conference are to provide a forum for mathematics educators,
teachers and graduate students from the region and beyond to discuss
issues, exchange ideas and to present their research findings
pertaining to mathematics education.
