Introduction For the first time ever, the Humanities and Social Sciences fields have taken the unprecedented step in combining forces during the 2nd Penang Postgraduate Convention to organise the International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities 2008 (ICoSSH’08). An effort mooted by Universiti Sains Malaysia under the visionary guidance of its Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dato’ Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, this conference attempts to bring together postgraduates, scholars and practitioners at local and international arena who are interested to share, cultivate and broaden their knowledge across disciplines in humanities and social sciences. This is hoped to bring about changes for greater global sharing that provide progressive governance of nations, sustainable growth in every field and advancements in innovations to strengthen the economic, social and political culture of the future. ICoSSH’08 will witness some prominent steps will be taken to facilitate this inter-disciplinary sharing. In the spirit of this interdisciplinary sharing, the ICoSSH’08 accords a challenging, yet exciting forums to widen the academics atmosphere and networking for this noble purpose. Realizing the benefits of this conference, we would like to invite post-graduate students, academics, researchers, consultants, representatives of governments, civil societies, non-government organizations (NGOs), and any other interested individuals to participate in this notable conference. Welcome to the International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities 2008 (ICoSSH’08). The organizing committee of ICoSSH’08 is honored to cordially welcome postgraduate students, scholars, academic staff from various higher institutions throughout the world, and researchers from various research centers.
