To create an ideal, safe and healthy campus environment for staff and students in line with the needs of the university and the country
Mission
The key mission of the Security Department is to actively encourage staff development aimed at improving the quality of its services and the efficiency of its duties in supporting and contributing to the community as well as the university to achieve its objectives.
Objectives
- Control the peace of the campus community
- Safeguard and control security/buildings/property/entrance and exits of the campus
- Enforce regulations as stipulated by the university
- Provide services and assistance to the public and the university
- Provide support and contribute to the University to achieveits objectives and mission
The Role of Security
- Protection of Assets (Property) and Personnel from Disturbances and Danger
- Prevention of all forms of Losses and Protection of Assets and People
- Crime Prevention is a Collective Responsibility
- The Security Department, Universiti Sains Malaysia assists the campus community periodically with regard to safety, advice and campus facilities. The Security Department’s slogan is “MAY I HELP”. The prevention of crime is a collective responsibility, so help us help you.
Complaints of Misplaced Items, Losses, Thefts
- All cases regarding misplaced items, losses or thefts must be reported to the Security Department that operates 24 hours
- The campus is huge and there are many residents; each complaint is very important to ensure that investigations or preventive measures are carried out and because it is from these complaints that information can be gathered to identify the sources and prevent these incidences from happening again.
- Residential or non-residential students who leave /enter campus after 12 midnight
- Students who have matters to deal with after 12 midnight, must register their names at the guardhouse at the Stadium gate or at the guardhouse at the gates to RST
- In case of emergencies or illness during the night, the ‘Penggawa’ or Deputy ‘Penggawa’ must be contacted

*The E-GATE System will operate after 12 midnight everyday, weekends and during public holidays
SMART CARDS
All students must display their matric cards to identify themselves while in campus. Loss of matric cards must be reported immediately or checked at the security Department. A temporary matric card will be issued.
Loss of Property
Students can check lost property at the counter at any time. Obtain advice at the 24 hour counter of the Security Department for lost and found items.
Read and Understand the AUKU Rules and Regulations
- University Students are regarded as adults. AUKU- Ignorance of the rules is no excuse
- Walking at Night
- Be alert at all times
- Do not wear jewellry or carry a handbag
- Avoid dark and quiet roads
- Walk in groups
- Couples of opposite sexes are forbidden from being together in dark and quiet areas. Stern action will be taken by the Hostel Officers, the Religious Officers and the Security Officers who patrol the campus.
- Student Welfare Fund
- In the event of a death in the family, students can approach the 24 hour counter at the Security Department together with a witness to obtain emergency financial assistance to travel home.
Student Activities
- Obtain advice at the Security Department or call 04-6533888 ext. 4326to obtain advice in organizing any activity.
- Safety Procedures in the event of a Fire
- Switch off all electrical equipment such as fans, lights etc. before leaving the room/ hostel.
- Do not use prohibited items such as water heaters and electric kettles in your room which can cause a fire if left unattended.
- Do not throw food remnants all over the place such as by the side of the drain, in the lift etc. This can cause stray animals to eat the food and disturb the peace and also causes cats to breed in the hostels.
- Do not damage fire prevention equipment such as deliberately damaging the BG system, fire alarms, Dry Powder etc.
- Students need to fully understand the safety procedures in the event of an emergency such as a fire, earthquake, and others (follow the Fire Drill at the Student Residence) and know where to assemble.
