NIBONG TEBAL, 9 AUGUST 2012 – The campus community was called upon to increase its concern and the attitude of taking responsibility of what happens to the surrounding community so that the people will be aware that USM is always concern about their welfare.

The Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Omar Osman expects the campus community to work closely together with the community outside, especially communities adjacent to the campus, and forge a close relationship between both parties.

“USM has always tried a variety of community programmes to assist the public, not only contributions of physical assistance, but also sharing of available knowledge and expertise,” he said during the breaking of fast reception with the Nurul Ihsan Orphanage, Sungai Siput, Perak and the Engineering Campus community at the Islamic Centre, Nibong Tebal, Pulau Pinang.

“It can simultaneously bring us closer to the surrounding community and can help to identify problems and needs that USM may be able to help.”

He said USM has a large support staff to help implement these programmes in addition to serving and working for the university.

"We have a staff of various ranks as well as students who are able to handle community programmes, so we are able to build a strong relationship for the good of the future."

At the reception, the Vice-Chancellor handed over contributions to 40 children of the Nurul Ihsan Orphanage, Sungai Siput, Perak.

The presence of nearly 85 students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Kechil Hilir, Bandar Baharu, helped to enliven the breaking of fast reception together with the Vice-Chancellor.

Prof. Nasirun Hj.
