BREAKING OF FAST AT AMDI: HELPING THE LESS FORTUNATE

BERTAM, August 15, 2012 – The Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI) of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), through its Ihya Ramadhan committee hosted a breaking of fast function at the Clinical Complex here last night.
This event hosted by AMDI for the first time since it officially began operating last year aims to foster better relationships between AMDI’s community and their families, as well as to help the less fortunate.
A total of 30 orphans, single mothers and the poor staying around Bertam were feted at the breaking of fast treat and they also received Aidilfitri contributions from AMDI handed out by USM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Omar Osman.
In his brief speech, Omar was proud of the effort and appreciated the initiative shown by AMDI staff who have collected donations to help the orphans and single mothers.
He also urged AMDI to continue to organise such event for a good cause in the future so that the community in Bertam can feel the presence of AMDI in its vicinity.
"With such efforts, I believe the university can become more closely associated with the community. I also hope that AMDI will continue to excel in academics, research and community work," he said.
Also present at the function were AMDI Acting Director, Prof. Ibrahim Lutfi Shuaib and AMDI Deputy Directors as well as nearly 200 guests made up mostly of AMDI staff and their family members. – Translation: Tan Ewe Hoe
