USM INTRODUCES TABLET COMPUTER LOAN SERVICES

PENANG, 12 Sept. 2012 – To keep abreast of providing information technology facilities, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has introduced tablet computer loan services to students who visit the library.
USM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dato' Omar Osman said that the facility is designed to give students a chance to access the internet and look for the reading needs and source for references at the library quickly.
He said the students are free to bring a tablet computer, equipped with rack numbers display facilities to search for literature anywhere in the library, to access the internet or to complete their assignment.
“A number of e-books will also be available for easy reading and if students encounter any difficulty, they can contact a librarian via available chat applications,'' he said during the launching ceremony of the new facility at Hamzah Sendut Library (HSL) 1, USM, here today.
He added, with the latest service, it is hoped to attract a larger number of campus community to frequent HSL.
