AUG 2012: VC PAYS COURTESY CALL ON LAOS MINISTER

PENANG, 12 Dec 2012 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Dato' Omar Osman, who is on an official working trip to Laos PDR, paid a courtesy visit to Laos PDR Minister of Education and Sports, Dr. Phankhan Viphavanh.
The visit which also saw the presence of the President of the Asean University Sports Council (AUSC) seeks to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries, particularly in improving the quality of sports performance at the ASEAN level.
The VC is in Laos to attend the opening ceremony of the Asean University Games (AUG) which was officiated by the Prime Minister of Laos, Thongsing Thammavong today. He is also invited as a guest of honour for the 16th AUG and as the main speaker in the Asean University Sports Council International Conference 2012.
In the conference, Omar will be presenting a paper titled "AUSCIC 2012 - Current Development and Challenges in Sport".
The courtesy visit also provided the VC the opportunity to hold a three-cornered discussion with the Minister focusing on the cooperation between USM and AUSC in the academic field and sports. – Translation: TAN EWE HOE
