Students want fees reduced
PALESTINIAN students studying at local institutions of higher education have requested that their fees be reduced.
They have asked for the fees to be on par with that of local students, said University Sains Malaysia vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Omar Osman who added that the request will be forwarded to the Higher Education Ministry, He said that the request, which was submitted by the Palestinian ambassador to Malaysia Abdelaziz Abughoush, should be considered as it was to ease the financial burden borne by these students in view of the current developments in Palestine.
“The tuition fees are high. The matter will be submitted to the government for approval and hopefully, it will be considered,” he said.
Abdelaziz made the request in his speech at the handing over of book vouchers worth about RM200 to 70 Palestinian students pursuing tertiary studies at various levels in the varsity.
Prof Omar said USM had collected RM700,000 for the Palestinian Education Fund since it was launched late last year. — Bernama
