300 chemists worldwide meet in George Town

GEORGE TOWN: The International Conference for Young Chemists opened with 300 participants from all over the world at the Bayview Georgetown Hotel, here, recently.

 

In the three-day Chemistry: Empowering Sciences Beyond Boundaries conference, speakers shared case studies and research.

 

Organised by Universiti Sains Malaysia, the meeting also aimed to foster a closer relationship with scholars from universities around the world. The speakers included Prof Santiago Gomez of the European Young Chemist Network and former USM deputy vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Mohd Idris Salleh.

 

Organising chairman Damien Khoo said the conference had garnered international recognition with the European Young Chemist Network sponsoring the prizes for the best case-study posters through certificates and plaques.

 

"We would like to thank Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon for helping us to get sponsors for the event."

 

Khoo said the function was organised by the post-graduate students of USM and its School of Chemical Sciences.It was also supported by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau and Petronas.
