Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) demonstrated its commitment to water conservation by actively participating in the World Water Day Celebration 2023 at the Air Itam Dam in Penang. The event, organized by Water Watch Penang in collaboration with Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP), was officiated by Penang Chief Minister, YAB Chow Kon Yeow.

USM’s River Engineering and Urban Drainage Research Centre (REDAC) supported the event by setting up an exhibition booth, showcasing innovative water conservation systems. The Chief Minister visited USM’s booth and received a presentation from Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Remy Rozainy Mohd Arif Zainol, the Director of REDAC, on the BIOECODS system, a National Pilot Study in Malaysia that highlights sustainable water management solutions.

Through initiatives like these, USM actively supports water conservation efforts not only on campus but also within the wider community, promoting practical solutions for responsible water usage.
