USM's Efforts in Combating Poverty: A Multilevel Approach

USM continues to lead and actively participate in policy making to implement programmes and initiatives aimed at eradicating poverty in all its dimensions. Through efforts at the local, regional, national, and global levels, USM is making a significant impact on various communities.

Local Level: KAMPRI Programme for USM B40 Students 

Since 2015, more than 500 B40 students from USM have benefitted from the ‘Kami Prihatin (KAMPRI)’ or ‘We Care’ programme. Organised by volunteers in collaboration with USM’s Student Development Affairs and Alumni Division (BHEPA), the initiative aims to provide essential support to financially challenged students, helping them cope with living expenses, academic needs, and emotional well-being. Regional Level: Strategic Partnership with TERAJU

 In alignment with the government’s Masyarakat MADANI agenda, USM has partnered with the Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (TERAJU) to tackle poverty on a regional scale. This collaboration focuses on uplifting underprivileged communities, particularly the Bumiputera, through education, skill development, and targeted support, ensuring they have access to opportunities for socio-economic advancement. National Level: MRI3 Programme for Workforce Development

USM’s Industry and Community Network Division has joined forces with 27 companies to address workforce needs across industries through the MRI3 programme. Set to offer over 500 job placements in 2024, the programme is designed to fill high-skill positions, doubling its initial target of 200 students. This national effort highlights USM’s commitment to developing Malaysia’s skilled workforce while providing much-needed employment for students from vulnerable communities. Read More..
