STUDENT MOVEMENT TO RETURN HOME/ RETURN OF STAFF TO CAMPUS
POST MOVEMENT CONTROL ORDER (MCO)
 
In keeping abreast with the latest announcement made by Prime Minister of Malaysia regarding the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) beginning 4 May 2020, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) would like to affirm a number of decisions made by the University on:
 
1. MOVEMENT OF STUDENTS TO RETURN HOME
 
1.1 Non-hostel Students (PETAS) of USM and students of USM who are undergoing industrial training (LI) as well as students from other public/private universities in the Northern region planning to return home using the USM BUS, are required to ENTER the Main Campus for health screening on 8 May 2020 from 9.00 am until 9.00 pm only. The University will not be responsible for any difficulty on the part of the students if they FAIL to abide by the ruling.
 
1.2 The latest information regarding the movement to return home for students on campus can be seen in the table below:

1.3 Students who are undergoing industrial training (LI)/practical/part-time work and staying on-campus will be allowed by the University authorities to resume their LI/practical/part-time work ONE DAY AFTER THE END of MCO 4 which is beginning 13 May 2020. However, it is subject to any change regarding the MCO.
 
1.4 Even with the government relaxing the restriction of the CMCO beginning 4 May 2020, USM is abiding by the latest decision from the Penang State Government, which will only implement CMCO beginning 8 May 2020. With regard to that, USM students who are still on-campus would be subject to the instructions as enforced throughout MCO 4. The students are requested to obtain permission from the USM Nerve Centre by filling in the required form. Nevertheless, students are still advised to remain on campus to avoid the risk of the COVID-19 outbreak.
 
2. RETURN OF STAFF TO CAMPUS POST MOVEMENT CONTROL ORDER (MCO)
 
2.1 The official decision of the University and the earlier announcement regarding the timeline on the return of the administrative/academic staff is still in effect. The University would like to inform that all staff will only return to work at the office beginning 1 June 2020 in stages.
 
2.2 Any administrative/academic staff intending to go to the office is required to obtain permission from the respective Head of Department.
 
2.3 All administrative/academic staff are encouraged to continue with the Work From Home (WFH) routine and the Head of Department is advised to fully consider the scheduling of staff whom are truly needed in the office until 30 May 2020.
 
2.4 The Registrar Department will share announcements from time to time on the finetuning of the Work From Home (WFH) process.
 
NOTE: This announcement is subject to changes made in official announcements by the government regarding the MCO from time to time.
