USM as a Neutral Platform for Political and Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) provides a neutral platform and safe space for political, governmental, and diplomatic stakeholders to come together to frankly discuss national and global challenges in a respectful and non-partisan setting.
On 27 November 2024, the School of Social Sciences, in collaboration with the Academic and International Affairs Division, hosted an Ambassador’s Talk featuring Her Excellency Jodi Robinson, High Commissioner of Canada to Malaysia, at the University Conference Hall. The session, titled “Canada and Malaysia: Strengthening Ties, Building Futures,” served as a neutral forum for dialogue on governance, peace, and international cooperation. The event brought together diplomats, political leaders, government agencies, university leadership, and students—strengthening USM’s position as a neutral convening platform that fosters inclusive, evidence-based, and multi-stakeholder dialogue to advance mutual understanding and collaboration
Additionally, Professor Datuk Sivamurugan Pandian, Professor of Political Sociology at the School of Social Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and member of the National Unity Advisory Council, participated in a national televised dialogue on Berita Terkini Kita (Astro Awani, 18 September 2024). In the discussion, he urged political leaders to act rationally, avoid divisive rhetoric, and prioritise unity in policymaking. His contribution reflects USM’s active involvement in national platforms that support open, constructive, and balanced political discourse.
Through these initiatives, USM demonstrates the existence of neutral platforms and safe spaces where diverse political and governmental stakeholders can engage in meaningful dialogue, advancing Sustainable Development Goal 16.
