USM Public Pledge Toward 100% Renewable Energy
Throughout 2024, the Centre for Education, Training and Research in Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Green Technology (CETREE), Universiti Sains Malaysia, continued to lead the national effort in strengthening public commitment toward achieving 100 percent renewable energy. Through education, outreach, and collaboration, CETREE promoted awareness and participation in Malaysia’s renewable energy transition, turning the vision of clean energy into a shared public pledge beyond the university.
STEMEC Fiesta and Energy Efficient Schools 2024 (SMK Yan, Kedah)
This programme encouraged students and teachers to participate in renewable energy learning through interactive STEM-based exhibitions, solar energy demonstrations, and innovation competitions. By integrating renewable energy concepts into school activities, CETREE cultivated early commitment among young Malaysians to support a 100 percent renewable energy future. The initiative transformed awareness into action by empowering students and educators to contribute to Malaysia’s clean energy pledge.
Penang Green Lifestyle Programme 2024
Held in collaboration with the Malaysia Green Foundation and the Penang State Education Department, this programme extended renewable energy education to the wider community. Through interactive talks, exhibitions, and practical activities, participants learned how energy efficiency and reduced consumption can help achieve national renewable energy goals. By connecting personal habits to the broader transition, the programme encouraged public alignment with the pledge for 100 percent renewable energy.
Institutional Leadership through Advancing Sustainability with Solar@USM. Beyond public engagement, USM reinforced its own renewable energy commitment through the award-winning Solar@USM initiative, recognized nationally at the 2024 National Energy Awards. The project expanded solar photovoltaic systems across campus facilities, demonstrating the university’s practical commitment to renewable energy adoption. By showcasing its leadership in implementation, USM inspired other institutions, agencies, and industries to take similar steps toward a fully renewable energy future.
Through these community-centred initiatives, CETREE effectively connected science, education, and citizen action. By transforming renewable energy from a technical concept into a shared responsibility, CETREE strengthened USM’s public pledge toward 100 percent renewable energy, ensuring that the message of clean energy adoption reaches beyond the university to empower schools, families, and the wider community.
