Free Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Services for Local Industry

In 2024, the Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), actively provided free direct services to local industries to strengthen energy efficiency and promote clean energy practices. Through the ESG Transformation Workshop Series, conducted in collaboration with the Penang Advance Dispute Resolution Centre (ADRC) and the Centre for Education and Training in Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Green Technology (CETREE), CGSS offered hands-on sessions and advisory support to help industries integrate sustainability into their daily operations.

Held between 12 and 27 October 2024, these workshops were offered free of charge to participating organizations in the manufacturing and services sectors. The programme provided practical training on energy efficiency improvement, renewable energy options, and sustainable operational strategies. Participants also received exposure to related areas such as ESG governance, quality management, business model innovation, and environmental impact assessment, all of which are critical to achieving low-carbon and energy-efficient industrial practices.

A total of 29 organizations, including Meraki Themeworks Sdn. Bhd., Plexus Manufacturing Sdn. Bhd., Penang City Council, AK DesignPro Sdn. Bhd., and First CDK Engineering Sdn. Bhd., took part in these free capacity-building sessions. Through expert-led workshops, technical discussions, and practical exercises, participants learned to apply ESG and energy management principles to reduce energy consumption, improve operational efficiency, and enhance sustainability performance within their respective industries.

By offering free technical training and consultancy on energy efficiency and clean energy adoption, CGSS demonstrates USM’s commitment to supporting Penang’s transition toward a resilient, low-carbon, and sustainability-oriented industrial ecosystem. This initiative highlights how the university extends its expertise beyond campus to empower local industries with the knowledge and tools needed to improve energy efficiency and contribute to Malaysia’s sustainable energy transition.
