STEM AND GREEN TECHNOLOGY EMPOWERMENT FOR MATRICULATION COLLEGE STUDENTS AND B40 RESIDENTS IN KAMPAR, PERAK – EVERGREEN-STEM 2022

Perak, 13 August 2022- Universiti Sains Malaysia, Perak Matriculation College and Ministry of Education hosted a day-long program to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Green Technology. The event featured distinguished guests, including the Dean of the USM (Universiti Sains Malaysia) Education Center, the Director and Deputy Director of the college, academic representatives, officials from the Ministry of Education Malaysia, members of the National STEM Association, and Penghulu Mukim. The program attracted 40 lecturers from various academic units, both within and outside the college as well as matriculation students. The program had three sessions: the first marked the inauguration of the EverGREEN-STEM Program and STEM Education, led by the Director of the college. The second session was a workshop on STEM concepts and education, and the third focused on green technology and its practical applications, featuring guest speakers from Universiti Sains Malaysia. The EverGREEN-STEM program, spanning August to December 2022, combines STEM knowledge and green technology, aiming to create innovative products such as electricity and environmentally sustainable solutions for long-term societal benefit. It also seeks to raise awareness about the significance of STEM and green technology among young individuals and educators. The primary objective of the program is to equip Perak Matriculation College's lecturers and students with STEM and Green Technology knowledge, fostering a commitment to environmental sustainability. USM and NSA Academia played key roles in imparting this knowledge. The presentations from the speakers, including a novel approach to generate electricity from waste, effectively guided participants, enhancing potential for innovation in STEM and Green Technology within the matriculation system. It is hoped that through this project, the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals in SDG 4 to make Malaysia a country that continues to develop with a fair, equitable and inclusive economic distribution at all levels of income groups, ethnicities and regions will be achieved.
